TCF: Test de connaissance du français

The TCF measures general ability in French. It is neither possible to pass nor to fail this test. Instead, you obtain a result corresponding to one of the 6 language levels defined by the CEFRL. The TCF test is divided into two parts: the compulsory and the optional examinations. The compulsory tests consist of multiple-choice questions (duration: 1h25) and measure written and oral comprehension of the language, as well as your proficiency in language structures. The optional tests (duration: 1h12) measure oral and written expression in French.
You may take the TCF examination more than once, though you must wait at least 30 days between 2 examinations. It is not possible to only enrol for the optional examination.

The TCF examinations take place several times per year.
